JAMES R. COWAN was married to ESTHER M. COWAN. Their daughter was EVELYN COWAN, better known as JILL JACKSON. The 1938
Nor'easter, which was the 25th Anniversary of the yearbook, listed Mr. COWAN as a teacher NEHS from 1913 to 1926;
however, the 1914 and 1926 yearbooks don't list him. The first time he is shown is in the 1916 Nor'easter. He was a very versatile
man teaching several subjects during his tenure at the school. He spent the 1917-1918 school year at a Base Hospital
for U.S. soldiers during WWI. He left NE in order to start teaching at the college level.
