Lieutenant Arthur Gebaur Jr. was born on February 22, 1919. He attended and graduated Northeast High School
in 1936.
Lt. Colonel Gebaur was listed as missing in
action in the Korean War and later declared deceased on August 29, 1952. His remains were found in 1976 and his body was buried
in the Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.
He
is one of the two men whom Richards-Gebaur AFB in Grandview, Missouri was named after.
The Grandview Air Force Base was renamed "Richards-Gebaur" Air Force base on April 27, 1957. It honors
1st Lt. John Francisco Richards II (1894-1918) whose Nieuport biplane was shot down September 26, 1918 while on an artillery
surveillance mission the last day of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in WWI. It also honors Lt. Colonel Arthur Gebaur Jr. (1919-1952)
who died in the Korean War.
